Research

Below are examples of our work supporting higher education institution clients' research efforts:

  • In its 10 years of work with this client, B&D Consulting has secured more than $134 million in funding directed by U.S. Congress, plus millions more in agency grants. In 2008 alone, B&D Consulting assisted in obtaining more than $14 million in federal authorizations and appropriations. In addition, B&D Consulting professionals have worked intimately with the policy makers. During the 2008 reauthorization of the Farm Bill, for example, B&D Consulting worked alongside client leadership to design amendments to strengthen the reauthorization of the Farm Bill, steering congressional – and now federal agency – action toward university priorities, which resulted in three university priorities being included in the reauthorization. These achievements represent the development of a successfully diverse funding agenda and strong congressional and agency working relationships.
  • B&D Consulting has played a crucial role in the development and advancement of several multi-institutional coalitions and partnerships, including one multi-university client which, through legislation, has secured long-term, non-earmark federal funding. B&D Consulting has advocated for growing the resources available to the FDA's Office of Pharmaceutical Science, the Critical Path Initiative and the newly established Critical Path Public Private Partnerships (CPPPP), working to ensure that our client becomes a primary external research and education partner of the FDA. As a result, the coalition has successfully secured more than $20 million in funding for the FDA's Critical Path Initiative and CPPPP funding.
  • B&D Consulting is proud to have provided consulting services to two Research 1 universities to inform the design and execution of the institution's proposal for an NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA). Submitted in October 2007, the proposal received a peer review score of high national distinction and was approved for funding early in 2008. Our firm has worked with the universities' strong programs and leadership, adding to their experience with our insight on National Institutes of Health (NIH) and its Center for Research Resources. B&D Consulting professionals have provided specific input on emerging NIH emphases, such as community engagement, health disparities, data sharing and the need for cross-campus, cross-affiliate and cross-discipline collaboration to accelerate research translation.
