Community Involvement

For more than 20 years, B&D; Consulting has built a tradition of supporting the communities in which our professionals and staff live and work. Whether through time, talents or charitable gifts, we give back in countless ways to nurture and grow the places we call home. Both at organizational and individual levels, we engage with clients and friends in civic activities that improve the fabric of our communities. B&D; Consulting professionals and staff give liberally of their time and other resources to support local organizations and activities that are important to the community.

Our firm engages in a number of annual charitable events designed to support well-respected charitable organizations in Washington, D.C. and Indiana. Bringing together Hoosiers living in D.C., B&D; Consulting's annual Hoosier Invitational Cup charity softball tournament focuses on giving to charitable organizations back home in Indiana. Similarly, our annual partnership with Casey Trees Foundation has allowed us to contribute to tree-planting efforts in high-need areas across the district, and our December food and toy drives have helped make the holiday season a little brighter for children and families in the D.C. metro area.

Recent Activities

Cesar Chavez Schools Fellowship Program

We are proud to partner with the Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools’ Fellowship program. B&D; Consulting supports this learning program by giving high school students an opportunity to experience life in the professional field of public policy. The fellowship program includes research assignments pertaining to health care and education law and policy, drafting of memoranda, and a trip to Capitol Hill to attend and report back on a legislative hearing.

In early 2010, Ashley Archibald, a Cesar Chavez senior and B&D; Consulting public policy fellow, addressed student accessibility to healthy and affordable food choices and opportunities for physical exercise throughout the day in an article to The Hill's Congress Blog. If the obesity epidemic goes unaddressed both in Washington, D.C. and nationally, it will produce a generation with unhealthy bodies and unhealthy minds that would require high-cost health care and lead to lower productivity, she wrote. Pro Bono Services

Baker & Daniels has a long-standing commitment to public and community-based service. As part of that commitment, Baker & Daniels has provided legal services to those who are in critical need but unable to pay for them. The firm believes that providing pro bono legal services is an important part of our professional and institutional responsibility.

B&D; Consulting shares that commitment to extend professional services on a pro bono basis where the need is great and the resources are not. While participation in pro bono work is voluntary, the firm encourages all of its professionals to participate in pro bono and public service activities, and it facilitates this participation in a constructive manner.

B&D; professionals have ongoing pro bono relationships with multiple community-based organizations throughout Washington, D.C. These groups benefit greatly from our team's expertise and skills, while we benefit from the knowledge that our work with them is helping to improve the lives of individuals within our community.

Our Community Engagement Committee is always seeking opportunities for our firm to provide support to D.C. metro area and other organizations. To learn more about our pro bono services or to partner with our firm on an event, please contact Frank Swain at 202.312.7416 or frank.swain@bakerd.com.
